Progress is the reveal. Even in the midst of our valleys

I joined Tik Tok recently and my sister asked me if I had uploaded the video of the bathroom’s progress from my other platforms. That’s when I had a light bulb moment. No such video existed. I had piecemeal videos of removing the wallpaper, tiling, redoing the vanity and the door. But I had subconsciously not shared any progress videos of the bathroom because I didn’t think it was worth celebrating. Not because I didn’t love it, but I didn’t think it was good enough to share without the full WOW factor of a big reveal. I didn’t even have personal videos of the bathroom progress!

I started rectifying that as soon as I hung up. I took videos and pictures of our bathroom in all its unfinished and beautiful glory. To do that, I went back and looked at the before pictures I took. And boy did it put things in perspective for me. What a far way we had come! Did it take a ridiculously long time where I cursed our procrastinating, self-doubting selves? Yes. That shouldn’t take away from patting ourselves on the back for our progress. In fact that is all the more reason to make some noise and blow that vuvuzela to celebrate the MOUNTAIN you have overcome. Even if you’re not on the other side yet. If that’s not a metaphor for life, I don’t know what is!

This really hit home for me as I am currently in a valley season (the untangling of messes, figuring ish out and not at your peak season). I have thought about writing a book or some sort of guide to talk about it. I quickly talked myself out of it because what could I possibly have to share if I haven’t quite figured it out yet? I don’t have the solution to share. But isn’t the valley or in the midst of a DIY project where you have the most colorful and raw account of your mistakes? Isn’t that the best way to connect with people who will be where you are? It is. So while I persuade myself to write the book while sitting in the valley, I will share with you my progress. The bathroom one.

There are decorative things that I would like to add, but for now enjoy and celebrate with us this fully functional bathroom!
