About Me

My name is Jamie and I bought a fixer upper with my husband in the midst of the pandemic. I soon realized that I didn’t love love my most expensive purchase–my home. I stewed in the thought that we had made a mistake and my love/hate relationship continued to fester. One day I realized that it wasn’t the house, it was me. I’m the problem! I am impatient, frugal, and I wanted my house to be perfect on closing day. The more people I talked to the more I realized that no one’s house is perfect, creating a home you love takes time, and it’s RIDICULOUSLY expensive to contract everything out. So I started studying at YouTube University to tackle projects myself (with my husband’s help) and I now consider myself an advanced beginner in the DIY world.

I’ve decided to document this journey because as a Jamaican immigrant who doesn’t have racks of cash, I am privileged to own a home. I wanted to document everything I have learned and to create a space to guide and inspire current or aspiring non-traditional homeowners, and renters to take the Create It Yourself (CIY) Path in creating a home and life they love. We’ll talk all things, home, garden and travel. It’s stressful these days, so let’s make sure we’re actively creating peace & joy for ourselves inside and outside of the home!
